Foil, Arms and Hog are performing in the US, Canada and Europe in the coming months. What are the tips and tricks for a long touring schedule?

Foil, Arms and Hog: Headphones.

And before that, there is the creation of the show; in this case, Skittish. What is the process like when writing a new show?

FAH: We write separately in cafés and libraries and then perform them first for the hardest audience, each other. Then we perform it for the second hardest audience, Scots. At the Edinburgh Fringe, the Scots will let us know if it’s funny or not, so by the time it comes to London, it’s been through the Hadrian’s Wall of filters.

But what makes Foil, Arms and Hog laugh the most?

FAH: As comedians, there’s nothing we love more than standing at the back of a gig that’s going badly wrong… for someone else. I still remember the comedian in Belfast who asked a chatty audience member to ‘see if you can come up here and make people laugh’’ thinking the guy wouldn’t do it. It was Belfast, so of course the guy got up, lifted the comedian off stage fireman’s style and then approached the microphone and said in a thick Belfast accent “why did the chicken cross the road?” Brought the house down.

So what can we expect from the new show?

FAH: Over two hours of sketches not available online, and a show that is different every single night. It’s a mix of hilarious scripted and improvisational silliness and a nice break from the madness of the real world.

And what’s it like to return to The London Palladium?

FAH: You never know when the comedy career will end and you’ll have to get a real job, so you try to make The London Palladium was the first time we had played in a theatre that meant something to people of any age, anywhere in the world. Coming back means we are not dead yet, which is a bonus.
